The negative interactions are outweighing the positive ones. Day-by-day the tension, anger, and resentment builds. You watch as your relationship gets increasingly distant. Maybe there are long silences and avoidance or loud and heated interactions — this is just not how you want it could be.
You so desperately want a better bond. Other families seem to be so close. You wish there were more trust, appreciation, and understanding. You seek deep connection, but are fearful that any attempt at connection will end in a fight. Opportunities to connect are missed because you are just so exhausted of the tension.
Whether you got to this point from an overnight change or it was a long path to this point, your relationship with your loved one feels stuck in what seems like an impossible dynamic.
Can you relate?
Are you sitting with disappointment, guilt, and sadness thinking that your relationship will never be in a good place?
Family therapy is a place of hope. A place where you can begin to see that your relationship is not lost. With time, practice, and a dash of patience, the patterns that have been built can be unfolded and rerouted. It is possible to experience peace where there was once tension.
Each of us shows up in our relationships with our own baggage. We often miscommunicate our needs and feelings leaving us hurt, sad, or angry. Family therapy provides a neutral ground in order to slow down communication so that you may finally understand and be understood.
Family work is like guided translation. I will help you communicate in a way that is respectful, easy to understand, and meaningful. I will help you develop strong listening skills — how to make others feel heard, understood, and seen. You and your family will finish the therapeutic work with a better understanding of your loved ones needs, desires, and how to communicate in an effective way.
How could doing the work now change the course of your family for generations to come?
Break the Cycle
Recognize the relational, repetitive patterns that your family cycles through. In therapy, you will discover how to break out of these cycles to create a new family life. The generational pain and struggle ends with you.
Improve Communication
Therapy is a dedicated space and time to practice new skills with the new information learned about your loved one. The work done in sessions will transfer to your home smoothly through practice, practice, practice.
Strengthen Relationships
An intentional focus on who you are and how you relate to your family. In therapy, you will find common ground to work towards common goals. Create a foundation to build your relationship upon long after your time with me.
Can family therapy work for sibilings?
Yes. We can address needs of various relationships within a family unit as long as all people involved are willing to do the work necessary to facilitate change.
Will one person get "ganged up" on?
No. Family therapy is respectful and fair. Together, we will take an objective look at the issues that need to be addressed and come up with a plan that fits the whole family’s needs.
Do we all have to be present for every session?
It depends. For the most part, I request that all parties involved are present for the duration of therapy. However, there will be times when I may request individual sessions.
